Governance Disclosures in FELDA, Tabung Haji Not Politically Motivated, Says Anwar

SERDANG, Sept 6 — Investigations and disclosures concerning governance issues in key government agencies such as the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) and Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) are grounded in the rule of law and not driven by political polemics or vengeance, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Speaking at the closing of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Show (MAHA) 2026 today, Anwar emphasized that uncovering financial mismanagement is an essential leadership responsibility to protect public funds and ensure grassroots communities—including farmers, fishermen, and padi growers—do not suffer from administrative leakages.

“Don’t politicise this. Think about it. I am not the one conducting the investigations; that is the responsibility of the enforcement agencies. The decision to prosecute is made by the Attorney General, and they have teams that scrutinise every case. The judges are the ones who decide the sentences,” Anwar stated.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, highlighted FELDA to illustrate the severe long-term impact of administrative failures on public coffers, noting that the Ministry of Finance is required to allocate RM980 million annually merely to service FELDA’s debts resulting from historical losses.

“Every year, the Finance Ministry has to provide RM980 million in funds for FELDA to service its debts arising from losses. Why? Because of weak management and the practice of taking what belongs to the people by those entrusted with responsibility,” he added.

The Prime Minister further revealed that several additional disclosures concerning past governance failures in FELDA’s management will be made public in the coming weeks.
