IPOH, Oct 5 – Police have confirmed the identities of four individuals involved in a fatal multi-vehicle collision at Kilometre 38.5 of the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, on Sunday afternoon, October 4, 2026.
Gerik District Police Chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman confirmed that three victims died at the scene: Al Zubair Deraman, 31; Tuan Shazrin Tuan Mud, 40; and Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, 19.
A young girl also perished in the crash, though her identity has yet to be officially confirmed by authorities. All victims were identified as residents of Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Collision Details and Injured Survivor
Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin stated that the accident occurred at approximately 1:30 PM and involved three vehicles: a Hino lorry, a Proton Persona, and a Perodua Axia.
Key operational details released by the police include:
- Vehicle Occupants: The Perodua Axia was driven by 19-year-old Mohamad Hafiz Daniel Nik Hairey, who was carrying four passengers—a 31-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, and two children—while traveling eastbound from Gerik toward Jeli.
- Crash Sequence: Initial investigations indicate the Perodua Axia lost control before colliding with the oncoming Hino lorry.
- Survivor Status: A nine-year-old passenger, identified as Mohammad Shiraz Hammani Abdul Fattah, survived the crash with injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.
