KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 – Former Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Yahya Lampong, who previously represented the Kota Belud parliamentary constituency, passed away on Monday morning at the age of 86.
He died at approximately 6:00 AM at the KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. His passing was confirmed by his son, Masley Yahya, in a social media statement, though an official cause of death has not been disclosed.
“May Allah SWT forgive his sins, shower him with His mercy, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Aamiin. Please keep Papa in your doa,” Masley shared.
Following his passing, Yahya’s remains were taken to the Nurul Islam Mosque in Ampang for final rites and funeral prayers prior to burial following Zohor prayers.
Yahya had a distinguished career in Sabah and national politics spanning several decades. He served as the Member of Parliament for Kota Belud from 1982 to 1986 after securing the seat as an Independent candidate during the 1982 General Election.
During the same decade, he also served as the state assemblyman for Tempasuk under the United Sabah National Organisation banner from 1985 to 1986.
His political trajectory began in 1981 when he contested the Usukan state constituency under Parti Bersatu Rakyat Jelata Sabah. Later in his political journey, Yahya contested the Papar parliamentary seat as a PKR candidate during the 2013 General Election.
