TAWAU, March 18 — A fire destroyed more than 700 houses in a water village of Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4 Jalan Apas here today, but no casualties were reported.
Tawau Fire and Rescue station chief Julius John Stephen said the station was summoned at 4.45 pm and more than 40 firemen were rushed there.

“We were also assisted by firemen from the Semporna fire station,” he said, adding that the fire was brought under control at 9 pm but the operation was still ongoing at press time.
The cause of the fire and damage had yet to be ascertained, he told reporters at the scene.
