SHAH ALAM, Aug 3 — A decision regarding the status of a Selangor state assembly seat is expected to be finalized this week, after which the Election Commission (EC) will determine whether a by-election is required, said Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Speaking to reporters following the Menteri Besar’s Assembly with civil servants and the launch of the Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign on Monday, Amirudin stated that the state government is awaiting formal notification from the Selangor State Legislative Assembly Speaker. In the meantime, the state legal adviser is preparing a technical note before the matter is officially submitted to the relevant authorities.
Amirudin emphasized that the decision rests within the Speaker’s prerogative and assured that the state government will fully comply with whatever ruling or process the EC establishes following the Speaker’s announcement.
He added that the state administration will adhere strictly to all legal framework requirements and procedures as mandated by law regarding any potential by-election.
The statement follows media reports indicating that state authorities were reviewing legal considerations over the eligibility of a Selangor state assemblyman, a matter that could determine if the seat is officially declared vacant.
