Claims of Redelineation Reducing Malay Power Are Fearmongering, Says Fahmi

SEREMBAN, July 29 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil has dismissed claims that a PH victory in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election would lead to electoral redelineation aimed at eroding Malay and Muslim political power, describing the allegations as an unhealthy scare campaign by the opposition.

Fahmi clarified that while the constitution allows for boundary redelineation every eight years, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Cabinet remain firm on ensuring the process is strictly focused on balancing voter distribution between constituencies rather than altering political dominance.

“We will not compromise on anything that gives the impression that we want to reduce Malay or Muslim power. For me, such claims are an unhealthy campaign that is trying to scare the people,” Fahmi said.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Negeri Sembilan Bureau Office today, Fahmi was responding to assertions made by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan. Takiyuddin reportedly claimed that a PH victory could alter the state’s political landscape, predicting that heavily populated constituencies currently held by PH would be divided into new seats.

Fahmi, who is also PKR Information chief, urged voters to judge the state government based on Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun’s tangible record in bolstering Islamic institutions rather than entertaining unfounded political rhetoric ahead of polling this Saturday.

He pointed out that the state government under Aminuddin has consistently prioritized Islamic welfare and community development, refuting opposition claims that Muslim interests are being sidelined.

“We know it may be difficult for Takiyuddin to acknowledge that under the administration of Tok Min (Aminuddin), the number of new mosques built under this government is the largest,” Fahmi noted.

“The amount of zakat collection is also the highest, while the allowances given to imams and the like are also among the highest compared to previous times,” he added.
