KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 – A 24-year-old bank officer pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate’s Court today to three charges, including dangerous driving resulting in the death of a five-year-old girl along Jalan Kuching last Saturday.

The accused, Raeven Goh Wey Haur, entered the plea after all three charges were read out before Magistrate Aliaa Anwar.

The first charge alleges that Goh drove a BYD Seal in a manner dangerous to the public, causing the death of five-year-old Asiah Ahmad Syahir. Framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, the charge carries a prison sentence of between five and 10 years, a fine ranging from RM20,000 to RM50,000, and a driving licence disqualification of at least 10 years upon conviction.

The second charge, brought under Section 42(1) of the same Act, accuses him of driving the vehicle dangerously considering prevailing traffic conditions. This offense carries a maximum jail term of five years, a fine of at least RM15,000, and a minimum five-year driving licence suspension.

The third charge, framed under Section 52(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, alleges that Goh failed to stop his vehicle after being involved in an accident. The charge provides for a maximum fine of RM2,000, up to six months’ imprisonment, or both upon conviction.

All three offences were allegedly committed along Jalan Kuching heading from the city centre toward Jalan Segambut at approximately 3:44 PM on October 10.

Bail Terms, Court Arguments, and Crash Details

The court established bail parameters and noted legal representation for the parties:

  • Bail Arguments & Additional Conditions: Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry requested bail at RM50,000 with one surety due to the gravity of the offences, alongside requirements for the accused to surrender his passport and face immediate driving licence suspension until trial completion. Defense lawyer Khailash Sharma requested a lower sum, highlighting that the accused’s 55-year-old father would act as surety and that the family had cooperated with police within 24 hours of the incident.
  • Court Order: Magistrate Aliaa Anwar granted bail at RM36,000 with one surety across all three charges, impounded the accused’s passport, and suspended his driving licence. Case mention was scheduled for November 19.
  • Watching Brief & Family Presence: The victim’s family attended the court proceedings, represented by watching brief lawyer Nur A’minahtul Mardiah Md Nor.
  • Multi-Vehicle Collision Sequence: Police investigations revealed that the BYD Seal allegedly rear-ended a Perodua Bezza carrying the victim as it moved slowly in traffic. The initial impact pushed the Bezza into a motorcycle, causing the car to spin into the right lane and collide with three other vehicles—a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard, and a Perodua Myvi.
  • Casualties: Asiah Ahmad Syahir sustained severe head injuries in the six-vehicle crash and was pronounced dead at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The victim’s father, who was driving the Bezza, and the motorcyclist sustained injuries in the collision.

Case proceedings will resume at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court on November 19.
