KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 – Bursa Malaysia opened in negative territory on Thursday, October 15, 2026, tracking overnight losses on Wall Street after higher-than-expected US inflation figures spurred fears of prolonged monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve, dampening regional risk sentiment.
By 9:15 AM, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) shed 10.22 points, or 0.63 per cent, to stand at 1,617.50 from Wednesday’s close of 1,627.72. The index had opened 2.62 points lower at 1,625.10.
Broader market breadth was distinctly negative, with decliners outnumbering gainers 449 to 86, while 276 counters traded flat, 2,032 were untraded, and nine were suspended. Market turnover reached 315.47 million units valued at RM178.50 million.
According to market commentary from Apex Securities Bhd, although Wednesday’s improved breadth and selective large-cap bargain hunting suggested domestic sentiment was stabilizing, overall upside potential remains constrained by higher-for-longer global interest rate expectations, foreign fund outflows, and geopolitical friction in West Asia.
