MELAKA, Oct 24 – Barisan Nasional (BN) will uphold its existing agreement to allocate seven state seats to Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the upcoming Melaka state election, declining requests for additional seat allocations.
BN Chairman and UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the decision on Saturday, October 24, 2026, stating that BN would honor the terms mutually agreed upon by both coalitions.
“I have heard about efforts to seek additional seats, but we already have a pact, an agreement to allow them to contest the seven seats BN is not contesting, which we have left to PN’s component parties to distribute among themselves,” Zahid told reporters after attending the Ulul Albab Huffaz Graduation and Excellence Appreciation Ceremony in Melaka.
The statement follows remarks made on Friday by PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who expressed PN’s desire to reopen seat negotiations in hopes of securing one or two additional constituencies beyond the seven originally designated.
Seat Allocation Framework and Key Election Timelines
Key details of the electoral pact, seat distributions, and official election deadlines established by the Election Commission (EC) include:
- BN Seat Allocation: BN will contest 21 of the total 28 state seats in Melaka, leaving the remaining seven seats for PAS and its PN component allies to distribute internally.
- Firm Electoral Pact: Zahid reiterated that negotiations on a political understanding with PAS had already been finalized and that BN would maintain its position without expanding PN’s allocation.
- Official Nomination Day: The Election Commission has fixed Saturday, October 31, 2026, for candidate nominations.
- Early Voting Date: Early voting for security personnel and civil servants will take place on Tuesday, November 10, 2026.
