KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — Malaysia’s bold experimental strategy in the badminton men’s doubles division has yielded immediate dividends after newly formed scratch pair Tee Kai Wun and Yap Roy King captured the Korea Masters 2026 title at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium today.
In their first-ever final appearance as a duo, Kai Wun and Roy King delivered a dominant performance to defeat fellow countrymen Man Wei Chong and Soh Wooi Yik in straight sets, 21-13, 21-18, sealing victory in just 31 minutes.
The triumph marks the second time Malaysia has claimed the Korea Masters men’s doubles title, following the 2024 victory by Wooi Yik and his former partner Aaron Chia.
The victory validates the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) decision to initiate a major reshuffle of the national men’s doubles roster, breaking up long-established combinations to identify more potent pairs ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifying period set to begin next year.
Under BAM’s tactical trial, established teammates were reorganized into new pairings, placing former partners on opposite sides of the net. Prior to the squad restructure, Kai Wun and Wei Chong were regular tournament partners, while Wooi Yik was paired with Aaron, and Roy King previously competed alongside Wan Arif Wan Junaidi.
The successful campaign in Asan signals a promising start for BAM’s revamped men’s doubles lineup as the national squad continues to fine-tune its combinations for upcoming international competitions.
