Assistant Medical Officer Killed, Four Others Injured in Batu Berendam Collision

MELAKA, Sept 29 – An assistant medical officer was killed, and four others—including three school children—were injured following a collision between a motorcycle and a car on Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Batu Berendam on Tuesday morning.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief ACP Halim Abas stated that in the 6:50 AM incident, the 32-year-old male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.

“Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle ridden by the victim was traveling from the direction of Sutera Wangi towards Peringgit, while the car driven by a 35-year-old woman was traveling from Peringgit before turning into the junction to Taman Ikhsan, Batu Berendam.

“As the car was entering the junction, the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction failed to avoid it and brake in time, crashing into the left side of the car,” Halim said in an official statement.

Halim noted that the driver, a housewife, was on her way to drop her children off at school.

Three young boys aged nine and 10 who were passengers in the vehicle suffered head lacerations, with one boy also sustaining an ear injury.

“All four of them were sent to the Melaka Hospital to receive treatment and are in the Green Zone,” Halim added.

The victim’s body was transferred to the Melaka Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
