Armed Masked Men Heist in Sungai Petani Goldsmith Shop, Escape With RM1 Million in Jewellery

Sungai Petani goldsmith heist

SUNGAI PETANI, Sept 17 — Four masked men armed with hammers and sharp weapons executed a swift heist at a goldsmith shop inside a Bakar Arang supermarket yesterday, fleeing with jewellery estimated to be worth between RM700,000 and RM1 million.

Kuala Muda Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said police received an emergency call alerting them to the incident at 7:20 pm.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspects arrived at the location on two motorcycles. Two of the men entered the establishment while their accomplices remained outside on standby. The robbers smashed the glass display cases with hammers and grabbed the jewellery before escaping.

“They smashed the display cases and took the items inside. The total losses are still being assessed, but preliminary estimates put the value at between RM700,000 and RM1 million,” Hanyan told reporters last night.

Hanyan added that the exact same shop had previously fallen victim to an armed robbery in 2024, incurring estimated losses of RM1 million.

Police are actively tracking down the suspects, and the case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for armed gang robbery.
