Arab League Convenes Extraordinary Session To Address Palestinian Security Emergency

Arab League extraordinary session Palestinian protection

CAIRO, Oct 13 – The Arab League will hold an extraordinary meeting at the General Secretariat in Cairo following a formal request from Palestine to discuss urgent international protection measures for Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

According to a report by the Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the session is being organized in response to mounting violence by Israeli forces and armed settlers against Palestinian communities and property.

The high-level meeting will also focus on upholding international law and international resolutions concerning the legal status of Jerusalem, particularly in response to foreign diplomatic missions opening in the city.

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Muhannad Al-Aklouk, confirmed that the session addresses a systematic strategy aimed at expanding settlements, displacing indigenous communities, and compromising the two-state framework.

Critical Agenda Items, Protection Demands, and Sanctions Call

The extraordinary session will cover key diplomatic and security measures:

  • Escalating West Bank Aggression: Ambassador Al-Aklouk emphasized that organized and coordinated attacks by settlers in the occupied West Bank represent a dangerous escalation that directly threatens civilian livelihoods.
  • Call for International Protection & Sanctions: Palestine called on the United Nations Security Council, regional bodies, and international parliaments to move beyond verbal declarations by enacting concrete punitive sanctions against those responsible for violence.
  • Independent Statehood Framework: Reaffirming resolutions from prior Arab summits, Al-Aklouk reiterated the right to establish a fully sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, completely free of military occupation and settlement infrastructure.
  • PLO Representation: The session will reassert the status of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

The Arab League is expected to issue a joint resolution detailing collective regional actions following the conclusion of the extraordinary meeting in Cairo.
