NEW YORK, July 28 — Tech giant Apple has reclaimed its title as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company, edging past chipmaker Nvidia as investors reward its disciplined capital spending strategy.
Apple’s market value climbed to approximately US$4.94 trillion on Monday, topping Nvidia’s valuation of roughly US$4.83 trillion.
Investors have increasingly viewed Apple’s restrained capital expenditure as a key operational strength, particularly as industry rivals commit tens of billions of dollars to construct massive artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
While competitors such as Alphabet and Tesla have aggressively stepped up spending to support AI data centres, autonomous robotaxis, and robotics, Apple has cut capital outlay over the past three quarters while steadily expanding its Apple Intelligence platform.
Markets will be closely scrutinising their quarterly earnings announcement on Thursday for insight into its long-term AI roadmap, specifically looking for evidence that Apple Intelligence can scale without driving up capital costs or eroding operating margins.
The scheduled conference call also marks Tim Cook’s final earnings report as chief executive officer before he transitions to executive chairman on September 1, when hardware chief John Ternus is expected to assume the CEO role.
