Anti-Rent-Seeking Act, Gaza Diplomacy, And Sick Housing Projects To Lead Dewan Rakyat Session

The Dewan Rakyat will discuss the Anti-Rent-Seeking Act, Gaza diplomacy, and abandoned housing projects today as Budget 2027 debates continue.

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14
– Measures to eradicate “Alibaba” licensing practices, Malaysia’s diplomatic outreach regarding Gaza, and rescue plans for abandoned housing projects are set to dominate proceedings in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.

According to the official Order Paper for October 14, 2026, Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) will question the Economy Minister on the status and tabling timeline of the proposed Anti-Rent-Seeking Act, aimed at curbing rent-seeking practices in public procurement and licensing.

Diplomatic responses to the ongoing West Asia crisis will also take center stage, with Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) asking the Foreign Minister to detail Malaysia’s engagements at the United Nations (UN) and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to enforce sustained ceasefires and maintain humanitarian aid routes to Gaza.

In housing, Fong Kui Lun (PH-Bukit Bintang) will ask the Housing and Local Government Ministry for its concrete rescue framework—including potential appointment of a white-knight developer—for 1,120 affected residential units at the Residensi Wilayah Salak Selatan project should its Scheme of Arrangement fail.
