All Schools In Johor, Melaka, And Negeri Sembilan Ordered Closed On Wednesday Due To Escalating Haze

All schools in Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan, alongside select districts in four other states, will close Oct 14 due to worsening haze.

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 13 – All schools across Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, October 14, 2026, as transboundary haze conditions continue to deteriorate across the country.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek announced the directive in a social media update on Tuesday afternoon, confirming that school closures also extend to specific impacted districts within Selangor, Pahang, Sabah, and Sarawak.

The Education Ministry (MOE) confirmed that 22 monitoring stations nationwide recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at unhealthy levels as of 3:00 PM on Tuesday.

The ministry outlined affected educational zones and home-based teaching measures:

  • Statewide Closures: All primary and secondary schools in Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan will be fully closed on Wednesday.
  • Affected Selangor Districts: Closures in Selangor apply to schools situated under the jurisdiction of the Hulu Langat and Sepang District Education Offices (PPD).
  • Affected Pahang Districts: School closures in Pahang affect the Kuantan, Pekan, and Rompin districts.
  • Affected East Malaysia Districts: In Sabah, closures apply to schools under the Tawau PPD, while affected districts in Sarawak include Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
  • Transition to PdPR & Work From Home: Affected educational institutions will implement Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) modules during the physical closure, while teachers and administrative support personnel are permitted to Work From Home (BDR).
  • Unaffected Regions: Schools in all other states and unaffected districts will continue standard physical classroom operations as scheduled.

The MOE will continue monitoring real-time API readings provided by the Department of Environment (DOE) to determine further scheduling updates for the remainder of the week.
