AI Malaysia Bhd Launched to Lead National AI 2030 Roadmap

CYBERJAYA, July 28 — The government has officially launched AI Malaysia Bhd, a national artificial intelligence entity under the Ministry of Digital created to serve as the chief catalyst in realizing the country’s AI Nation 2030 vision.

Officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim here today, the central entity will unify policy coordination and national implementation to ensure all AI systems developed, adopted, and governed in Malaysia remain human-centric, safe, and trustworthy.

In conjunction with the launch, the government also introduced the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 as a critical nation-building blueprint. Driven by a whole-of-government approach, the plan establishes a structured implementation framework featuring 14 direct-impact sectoral initiatives alongside 14 supporting initiatives.

The action plan relies on five core catalysts: Globally Competitive Human Capital, Market-Driven Innovation, Data and Computing Infrastructure, Responsible Governance, and Sustainable Financing and Investment.

According to the Ministry of Digital, AI Malaysia Bhd’s operations are structured around three core pillars: establishing governance frameworks, ethics codes, and trust mechanisms; leading strategic global AI partnerships for talent and technology transfer; and serving as the national AI Safety Institute.

To fulfill the safety and technical mandate, the ministry announced the establishment of the Malaysia AI Safety Institute (MY-AISafe) to pool expertise across government, industry, academia, and research institutions nationwide.

Furthermore, the ministry confirmed that an AI Governance Bill adopting a risk-based regulatory approach is currently undergoing public consultation and is targeted for completion by the end of this year. The legislation aims to provide legal certainty and safeguard public trust without stifling digital innovation.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo highlighted that establishing AI Malaysia Bhd represents a strategic commitment to unifying policy execution across all sectors.

“Guided by the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030, the ministry is committed to ensuring that artificial intelligence development is built on a strong foundation of trust, safety and governance, including through the drafting of the AI Governance Bill and establishment of the Malaysia AI Safety Institute,” Gobind said.
