KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 – Sources have revealed that Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor may be charged for money laundering soon, New Straits Times reported.
Rosmah, who is the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, had been under investigation over the past two years but no action had been taken until three months ago.
According to the daily, investigators decided to revive their probe into Rosmah soon after the fall of the Barisan Nasional government in the general election on May 9.
Rosmah was called up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in June and was questioned for about three hours, over allegations related to sources of funds connected to her husband.
The probe into SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of beleaguered 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), eventually saw Najib being charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust and one charge under the MACC Act 2009 involving some RM42 million. He pleaded not guilty.
Rosmah to face 20 charges?
As to the number of charges that Rosmah could face, sources told NST it could come up to 20, mostly linked to alleged money laundering.
One of the charges was also rumoured to be over the purchase of hormone-based anti-ageing products from the United States worth about RM1 million.
The MACC probe in June was said to have also been about funds from SRC being allegedly used to purchase the oral dietary supplements.
According to the NST, some users of the products claim they had experienced a boost in energy levels, had better sleep, increased sex drive, decreased body fat, increased lean muscle mass and better skin complexion.
The report also revealed that a cheque payment of more than RM1 million was made out to a “Datuk” doctor in February 2015 for the purchase of two sets of medication worth in excess of RM500,000 each.
