Perlis MB Abu Bakar Hamzah Suspended By Bersatu Disciplinary Board For Two Party Election Terms

Perlis MB Abu Bakar Hamzah suspended Bersatu disciplinary board

KANGAR, Oct 21 – Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah has had his Bersatu membership suspended for two party election terms following alleged constitutional and ethical violations, state party leaders confirmed on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Perlis Bersatu chief Izizam Ibrahim verified the suspension after an official notice dated October 14 circulated widely across messaging platforms.

According to the disciplinary order, Bersatu’s Disciplinary Board convened on October 13 and determined that Abu Bakar breached Clause 9.1.4 of the party constitution along with the party’s Code of Ethics and Conduct for Members. The suspension takes effect immediately from the date of the notice.

Under the disciplinary ruling, Abu Bakar—who serves as the Kuala Perlis assemblyman—has been stripped of all internal party leadership positions and is prohibited from issuing official statements on behalf of Bersatu throughout the suspension period.

Administrative Position and Appeal Rights

Key administrative and political developments regarding the Perlis state leadership include:

  • Menteri Besar Position: Izizam Ibrahim stated that Abu Bakar should voluntarily relinquish his position as Perlis Menteri Besar if he adheres to political integrity, but added that state leaders will await formal directives from Bersatu’s central leadership.
  • Statutory Appeal Window: Abu Bakar retains the right to submit a formal appeal against the Disciplinary Board’s decision within 14 days of the notice’s issuance date.
  • State Exco Context: Izizam, who also serves as the Titi Tinggi assemblyman and state executive councillor, noted that state party operations will continue normally while waiting for central guidance.

Bersatu central leadership is expected to deliberate on the governance status of the Perlis state administration in upcoming supreme council meetings.
