Schools In Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, And Pahang To Reopen Tomorrow

Transboundary haze worsened as 27 areas recorded unhealthy API readings

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14  – Educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MOE) across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Pahang will resume operations tomorrow.

The announcement follows temporary closures enforced by Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek across affected states and districts due to deteriorating haze conditions. State education departments have outlined precautionary measures and operational guidelines to protect student well-being upon reopening.

State Guidelines, Safety Protocols, and Attendance Directives

State Education Departments issued state-specific directives to manage air quality risks and protect student health:

  • Selangor Directives: The Selangor State Education Department emphasized that school operations will prioritize the safety, health, and well-being of students and staff. Wearing face masks is strongly encouraged as a precautionary measure. Parents or guardians concerned about air quality may keep their children home, provided they officially notify the school of the absence.
  • Negeri Sembilan Safety Thresholds: The Negeri Sembilan Education Department instructed school administrators to monitor Air Pollutant Index (API) levels continuously. Schools must immediately suspend all outdoor activities—including Physical Education classes, co-curricular sports, assemblies, camping, and events held in open halls—whenever the local API reading surpasses 100.
  • Melaka Reopening Conditions: The Melaka State Education Department confirmed schools will reopen tomorrow, subject to real-time API monitoring. Administrators were directed to cancel all outdoor assemblies and sporting activities, encourage student mask-wearing, and advise regular hydration. Parents are urged to monitor children for haze-related symptoms and seek prompt medical care if needed, with operational updates to be posted on the department’s official Facebook page.
  • Pahang District Reopenings: The Pahang State Education Department confirmed that schools across Pekan, Kuantan, Rompin, Temerloh, Maran, Bera, and Bentong will resume classes tomorrow.

The Ministry of Education will continue monitoring national API levels closely and coordinate with state education authorities to issue further health guidelines as air quality conditions evolve.
