KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 – Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) is in the final stages of selecting its candidates to contest the 16th Melaka State Election scheduled for November 14, 2026, confirmed party vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
Speaking to reporters following the launch of MyBakat Week organized by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) on Thursday, Ramanan indicated that the official candidate lineup could be unveiled within the next two to three weeks.
“So far, we are in the process of finalising the candidates who will contest in Melaka,” Ramanan stated regarding PKR’s electoral preparations.
Key Election Dates and Historical Context
The candidate selection process follows the official release of the state election timeline by election authorities:
- Key Election Dates: The Election Commission (EC) announced key dates for the polls, setting nomination day for October 31, early voting on November 10, and polling day on November 14, 2026.
- 2021 Election Breakdown: In the previous 2021 Melaka State Election, Barisan Nasional (BN) secured a two-thirds majority by winning 21 of the 28 state seats to form the state administration.
- Opposition Seats: Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured two seats in the 2021 state contest.
PKR leadership is currently reviewing internal recommendations and constituency feedback before finalizing its list of candidates across targeted seats.
