Terengganu SUKMA Para SUKMA victory incentives

KUALA NERUS, Oct 6 – The Terengganu state government has disbursed victory incentives totaling RM1.56 million to 203 state athletes in recognition of their achievements at the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA).

Speaking at the presentation ceremony in Kuala Nerus on Monday night, State Youth, Sports, and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee Chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim described the cash awards as a gesture of appreciation for the contingent’s dedication and sacrifices.

Terengganu improved its overall standing at the biennial national games, climbing from fifth place at the 2024 SUKMA in Sarawak to finish third in the 2026 edition behind overall champion Selangor and second-place Federal Territories.

Medal Breakdown and Revised Incentive Rates

During the 2026 Selangor SUKMA, the Terengganu contingent secured a total of 123 medals, comprising 43 gold, 44 silver, and 36 bronze. In the Para SUKMA events, the state finished in 10th position overall, collecting seven gold, 11 silver, and 19 bronze medals.

To reward the athletes’ performance, the state administration introduced revised incentive rates across all medal categories:

  • Gold Medallists: RM5,000 for individual gold medal winners in both SUKMA and Para SUKMA.
  • Silver Medallists: RM3,000 for silver medal recipients.
  • Bronze Medallists: RM1,500 for bronze medal winners.

Future Targets and International Recognition

Hishamuddin stated that early preparations and upgraded athlete development programs will commence shortly to build on the state’s momentum heading into the 2028 SUKMA in Kelantan.

“We achieved our target at this year’s SUKMA by finishing among the top three teams. For the Kelantan SUKMA, we will strive to move up to second place, or even to become champions,” Hishamuddin said.

In addition to the SUKMA rewards, the state government disbursed RM117,200 under the National Representative Scheme (SWARA) and Victory Award Scheme (SHAKE) to 34 Terengganu athletes who represented Malaysia at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
