Bursa Malaysia opens higher Wall Street momentum

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 – Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Tuesday morning, tracking positive overnight momentum on Wall Street as subdued crude oil prices—driven by a recovery in West Asia crude exports—helped offset a ongoing sell-off in US Treasuries.

At 9:21 AM, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) advanced 7.14 points, or 0.44 per cent, to reach 1,638.89 compared to Monday’s close of 1,631.75. The index had initially opened 4.63 points higher at 1,636.38.

Across the broader market, advancing counters outpaced decliners 272 to 202, with 364 counters remaining unchanged, 1,944 untraded, and 13 suspended. Market turnover stood at 440.19 million units valued at RM164.76 million.

Heavyweight Movements and Sector Performance

Heavyweight banking and energy-linked stocks led the early morning gains, helping push all main index boards higher.

Key market movements across categories during early trade included:

  • Heavyweight Performance: Maybank and Tenaga Nasional each gained four sen to RM10.04 and RM13.04, respectively, while CIMB rose three sen to RM7.76. IHH Healthcare added two sen to RM7.78, while Public Bank traded flat at RM4.71.
  • Active Counters: Zetrix AI inched up half a sen to seven sen, Divfex added one sen to 16.5 sen, and Ramssol rose 2.5 sen to 86 sen. Meanwhile, ACE Market debutant SLGC fell 3.5 sen to 24.5 sen, and Dagang NeXchange edged down half a sen to 50 sen.
  • Top Gainers: Plantation counters saw strong demand, led by Batu Kawan, which surged RM1.24 to RM20.22. Nestle and Kuala Lumpur Kepong gained 20 sen each to RM90.20 and RM21.06, respectively, followed by Petronas Dagangan (up 18 sen to RM19.38) and Genting Plantations (up 16 sen to RM5.82).
  • Top Decliners: HeiTech Padu dropped seven sen to 88 sen, while Thong Guan Industries, Sunway Construction Group, and Allianz Malaysia declined six sen each to RM1.44, RM7.55, and RM20.74, respectively. UMS Integration lost four sen to trade at RM9.36.
  • Index Breakdown: The Plantation Index posted significant gains, jumping 73.78 points to 9,004.81. The Financial Services Index surged 56.47 points to 19,196.61, the Energy Index gained 1.78 points to 831.72, and the Industrial Products and Services Index edged up 0.16 of a point to 179.13.

The FBM Mid 70 Index advanced 41.29 points to 17,584.78, the FBM Emas Index added 44.30 points to 12,234.65, and the FBM ACE Index rose 7.73 points to 5,614.34.
