KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 4 – A 42-year-old man with a mental disability allegedly beat his elder brother to death following ongoing disputes over the victim’s frequent financial demands from their parents in Bukit Payong, Kuala Terengganu, on Saturday morning, October 3, 2026.
Terengganu Police Chief Datuk Mohd Khairi Khairudin stated that police received a distress call regarding a altercation at a family home in Kampung Banggol Tasekat at approximately 10:55 AM.
Initial investigations revealed that the 43-year-old victim, who had a prior drug-related record, died after being struck with a blunt object.
Sister Injured in Attempt to Intervene
The suspect’s 36-year-old sister sustained multiple injuries when she attempted to intervene and stop the violent assault. She was admitted to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for treatment after suffering a laceration to the back of her head, a fractured right thumb, and a minor spleen injury.
“The 42-year-old suspect, who is a person with a mental disability, was arrested by police by the roadside in Bandar Bukit Payong shortly after the incident,” Mohd Khairi informed reporters during a press conference at the Terengganu Police Contingent Headquarters on Sunday.
“He was believed to be dissatisfied with his brother, who has a drug-related record and allegedly frequently asked the family for money,” Mohd Khairi added.
The suspect has been remanded to assist with investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
