Bursa Malaysia remained firmly in negative territory at mid-morning on Thursday, October 1, 2026, dragged down by selling pressure across key blue-chip counters, primarily in healthcare, industrial products, and utilities sectors.

At 11:00 AM, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slid 11.73 points to 1,639.44 compared to Wednesday’s close of 1,651.17. The index had opened 1.30 points lower at 1,649.87.

Market breadth was negative, with decliners outpacing gainers 484 to 273, while 460 counters traded unchanged, 1,556 untraded, and 12 suspended. Total turnover stood at 1.18 billion shares valued at RM769.76 million.

Sectoral Pressure and Heavyweight Performance

Heavyweight stocks across multiple sectors experienced selling pressure during the morning session:

  • Healthcare: IHH Healthcare dropped 13 sen to RM7.70.
  • Industrial Products: Petronas Chemicals shed 11 sen to RM4.07, Press Metal Aluminium slipped 9 sen to RM7.36, and Sunway fell 2 sen to RM4.40.
  • Utilities: YTL Power lost 6 sen to RM5.81, Tenaga Nasional dropped 2 sen to RM12.94, and YTL Corporation edged down 1 sen to RM2.27.
  • Financials: Banking stocks saw broad-based softness with Public Bank down 3 sen to RM4.67, while Maybank and CIMB eased 2 sen each to RM9.97 and RM7.77, respectively.

In active trade, ACE Market debutant GB Bond shed 2.5 sen to 22.5 sen, while Dagang Nexchange gained 2 sen to 50.5 sen. V.S Industry added 1 sen to 29 sen, Zetrix AI rose half a sen to 16.5 sen, and Jaks Resources dropped half a sen to 20 sen.

Technology stocks featured among the session’s top gainers:

  • Malaysian Pacific Industries: Up 62 sen to RM41.02.
  • Malayan Cement: Up 12 sen to RM5.57.
  • MI Technovation & Hengyuan Refining: Gained 10 sen each to RM5.30 and RM3.66, respectively.
  • Vitrox: Advanced 8 sen to RM9.99.

On the decliners’ chart, Kuala Lumpur Kepong led losses, falling 74 sen to RM21.46. Other notable pullbacks included Allianz Malaysia (down 68 sen to RM20.94), Nestle (down 40 sen to RM89.60), United Plantations (down 30 sen to RM31.26), and Hong Leong Bank (down 28 sen to RM22.86).
