Singapore DPM Arrives in Malaysia, Supply Chain Resilience High on Agenda

Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong

SEPANG, Oct 1 – Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong arrived in Malaysia on Thursday, October 1, 2026, for a one-day working visit focused on deepening bilateral economic ties and enhancing supply chain resilience.

The commercial flight carrying Gan and his official delegation touched down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 at 9:40 AM. He was received by Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) Deputy Secretary-General (Investment and Management) R. Jaya Singam.

High-Level Engagements and the 3rd Annual Ministerial Dialogue

During his visit, Gan is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and attend a business luncheon hosted by the Malaysia-Singapore Business Council in Kuala Lumpur.

He will also meet with Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir in Putrajaya and co-chair the Third Annual Ministerial Dialogue (AMD) alongside MITI leadership.

The Third AMD will focus on fortifying economic, trade, and investment cooperation—with a particular emphasis on supply chain security and the halal sector—amid growing global geo-economic and geopolitical uncertainties.

Key Expected Deliverable: Supply Chain Working Group

A primary deliverable of the ministerial dialogue is the adoption of the formal Terms of Reference for the Malaysia-Singapore Supply Chain Working Group.

The working group is designed to:

  • Enhance bilateral supply chain resilience.
  • Coordinate joint emergency responses during cross-border crises.
  • Facilitate the seamless movement of essential goods.
  • Minimize supply chain disruptions affecting both economies.

Strong Bilateral Trade Foundation

The visit underscores the robust economic partnership between the two neighboring nations. In 2025, Singapore retained its position as Malaysia’s second-largest global trading partner and its largest trading partner within ASEAN, with total trade valued at RM402.8 billion.

Furthermore, Singapore remained Malaysia’s top source of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) among ASEAN member states during the same period, contributing RM53.4 billion in total investments.
