Partial Lane Closures on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah Until Nov 15 for LRT Mutiara Line Works

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 30 – Long-term intermittent partial lane closures along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in George Town will be implemented from October 1 until November 15, 2026, to facilitate construction works for the Mutiara Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line.

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) announced in a statement on Wednesday that the closures will take place nightly over 45 days, operating from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM daily to allow for tree-felling operations.

Traffic Management Details

The night closures will affect specific stretches along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah:

• Komtar-bound: The leftmost lane between the Jalan Sungai Dua intersection and the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Padang.
• Bayan Lepas-bound: The leftmost lane between the Batu Uban Army Camp and the Sunny Point complex.
• Both Directions: The rightmost lane in both directions between the Batu Uban Army Camp and the nearby traffic light intersection.

MRT Corp confirmed that all remaining unallocated lanes along these stretches will remain open to general traffic during the operational window.

Motorists and road users are advised to exercise caution and drive carefully when navigating through the affected zones. MRT Corp added that clear traffic signboards, safety cones, and flagmen will be deployed at key locations to direct traffic flow and maintain road safety.
