KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Barisan Nasional (BN) has expressed its profound gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, following the decision allowing former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
In a statement issued today on behalf of BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the Supreme Council, component parties, and Friends of BN, Secretary-General Datuk Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir said the ruling carries immense meaning for Najib, his family, and the broader coalition.
Zambry stressed that the coalition pursued the pardon application through official legal channels with complete humility and respect for the Malay Rulers and the constitutional framework.
“Barisan Nasional maintains the position that the application process regarding this matter was submitted with full decorum, through lawful channels, while respecting the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Malay Rulers, the supremacy of the Constitution, and the sovereignty of the rule of law,” Zambry said.
He added that BN received the news with deep appreciation, calm, and propriety, confirming that the coalition respects all established conditions and procedures surrounding the conditional pardon.
Looking ahead, Zambry reaffirmed BN’s ongoing commitment to foundational governance principles as the nation navigates the legal development.
“In navigating this development, BN will continue to hold firmly to the principles of a Constitutional Monarchy, parliamentary democracy, and the rule of law, which serve as the pillars of national peace, stability, and prosperity,” he stated.
The coalition’s response follows the decision made during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara, which granted Najib a conditional pardon permitting house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of an RM50 million fine.
