PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 — Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Management Director Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Abdul Majid has been appointed as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police, effective Sept 9.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the appointment received the royal consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, acting on the advice of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the recommendation of the Police Force Commission, in accordance with Clauses 4 and 5 of Article 140 of the Federal Constitution.

“Abdul Aziz’s expertise and experience in policing, coupled with his strong leadership and competence, make him well suited to serve as Deputy Inspector-General of Police,” Saifuddin said in a statement today. “The government congratulates him on his appointment.”

Abdul Aziz, 59, hails from Penaga, Penang, and holds a Master of Social Sciences (Police Studies) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He officially joined the police force on July 1, 1995.

Throughout his career, Abdul Aziz has served across diverse departments within PDRM, including the Special Branch, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), Logistics and Technology, and Crime Prevention and Community Safety.

Prior to his appointment as Deputy IGP, his senior roles included PDRM Management Director, Deputy Director of Special Branch, Deputy Director of Narcotics, Penang Deputy Police Chief, Principal Assistant Director of Management Policy/Human Resource, and Principal Assistant Director of the Special Integrated Investigation Team. He has also participated in major international policing seminars, including the 8th International Symposium of Best Police Practice in Dubai and the Intelligence Management Development Programme in Australia.
