PUTRAJAYA, Sept 14 — The Public Service Department (PSD) is examining measures to further improve the income of civil servants in Malaysia, said Public Service Director-General Tan Sri Dr Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz today.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference 2026, Wan Ahmad Dahlan stated that current civil service salary levels do not fall below the poverty line, advising public sector workers to manage their personal finances prudently.
“In my view, civil servants earning their current salaries are not below the poverty line; it is simply a matter of how the civil servants themselves manage their expenses,” Wan Ahmad Dahlan said. “At the same time, we are also examining any measures that could provide for or further improve civil servants’ income.”
Wan Ahmad Dahlan noted that comprehensive salary adjustments for civil servants had already been introduced under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), emphasizing that any future income-enhancement initiatives remain subject to the government’s financial capacity.
The SSPA, which officially came into force on Dec 1, 2024, replaced the long-standing Malaysian Remuneration System (SSM) as a landmark civil service reform aimed at boosting employee motivation through a more competitive salary structure and a transparent performance assessment system.
