Election Commission Prepared to Review Constituency Boundaries Subject to Constitutional Amendments

Election Commission electoral constituency boundaries delineation

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 13 – The Election Commission (EC) will conduct a review of electoral constituency boundaries across the country, subject to proposed amendments to the Federal Constitution being passed, announced EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun.

In an official statement issued on Sunday, Ramlan stated that the commission took note of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement on Friday regarding proposed constitutional amendments aimed at increasing parliamentary seat representation for Sabah and Sarawak.

Ramlan explained that the boundary review process across the country’s three delineation study units—Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak—will take into account electoral constituencies nationwide, adhering to the principle of increasing the proportion of parliamentary representation for the East Malaysian states.

“In the context of the delineation of electoral constituencies in the three study units, the EC will conduct a review of the electoral constituency boundaries, subject to amendments to the Federal Constitution,” Ramlan affirmed. He added that the EC will issue further official updates and comprehensive technical clarifications once formal legislative decisions are enacted and progress can be announced to the public.
