Body of Missing 33-Year-Old Fisherman Recovered Off Pulau Batu Layang

KANGAR, Sept 13 – The body of a 33-year-old fisherman who fell into the sea near Sungai Baru was recovered by local fishermen approximately 400 metres from Pulau Batu Layang on Sunday morning.

The victim, identified as Khairul Amir Bahroom, had been reported missing at around 3:30 am on Saturday after falling overboard while out at sea with his elder brother.

Kuala Perlis Maritime Zone director Maritime Commander Nak Rong A/L Si Prom stated that the joint search and rescue team was notified of the discovery by members of the local fishing community early Sunday morning. “The operation team received information from the fishing community about the discovery of a body approximately 400 metres from Pulau Batu Layang,” he said in a statement.

Following the report, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) dispatched Bot Benteng 1207 to retrieve the body from the sea. The vessel brought the victim to the Kuala Perlis Customs Jetty, where the remains were handed over to the police for further action.

Kangar District Police Chief ACP Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop confirmed that the body would be taken to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah (HTF) in Kangar for a post-mortem examination.
