Southbound Left Lane of North-South Expressway Reopens Following Landslide Assessment Near Menora Tunnel

IPOH, Sept 12 – The left lane of the North-South Expressway (NSE) southbound at Kilometre (KM) 263.6, which was temporarily closed following a landslide on Friday, was reopened to all vehicular traffic at 1:00 pm on Saturday after technical assessments confirmed the slope was safe.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed that multi-agency inspections determined the affected slope area poses no immediate danger to road users. Announcing the reopening, Mohd Alwi stated in a statement on Saturday, “As such, the southbound left lane was reopened to all vehicles at 1 pm. Traffic in both directions is currently reported to be flowing smoothly.” He added that ongoing structural reinforcement would proceed, noting that “repair works on the slope will continue to ensure that the area remains safe,”.

Authorities advised motorists passing through the stretch between the Menora Tunnel and Ipoh to remain vigilant, observe posted traffic signage, obey safety instructions from on-site personnel, and reduce driving speeds, particularly during heavy rainfall or adverse weather conditions. The temporary closure of the one-kilometre stretch had been instituted earlier in the day as a safety precaution following a major slope collapse at the location on Friday that had triggered severe traffic congestion extending up to 15 kilometres along the southbound corridor.
