Police Arrest 31-Year-Old Man Suspected of Murdering Mother in Tambunan

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 12 – Police have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of murdering his 56-year-old mother at a rented residence in Kampung Katagayan, Tambunan, on Friday afternoon.

Keningau district police chief Supt Erwansyah Abdul Basir stated that authorities were alerted to the incident at approximately 2:00 pm and immediately initiated a operation to locate the suspect. Initial findings indicated that the victim succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene, which are believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon.

Local residents located the fleeing suspect at a hut in nearby Kampung Sutung, Tambunan, and detained him until police arrived. Describing the apprehension, Erwansyah noted, “Villagers apprehended the suspect at a hut in Kampung Sutung, Tambunan, before handing him over to police.” He added that “the suspect was taken to the Tambunan police station, where he was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department team from the Keningau district police headquarters,” in a statement released on Saturday.

Police investigation and forensic teams inspected the crime scene and confiscated several items believed to be connected to the murder. The victim’s body has been transferred to the hospital for a post-mortem examination, with authorities investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Advising restraint, Erwansyah added that “the public is urged not to speculate or spread unverified information about the case,”.
