GEORGE TOWN, Sept 6 — The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has submitted its initial Budget 2027 proposal framework to the Finance Ministry (MOF), prioritizing grassroots sports development, expanded youth participation, and athlete welfare.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the framework incorporates direct feedback gathered through the ongoing nationwide MADANI Youth Budget Tour across six zones.

Speaking to reporters after flagging off the Oregeon Tower Run Series at The TOP Atrium today, Dr Mohammed Taufiq confirmed that preliminary discussions have taken place with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

“Although all the tour sessions have not been completed, KBS has obtained various views from youth organisations, sports associations as well as unorganised youths for review and assessment,” Dr Mohammed Taufiq said. “So far, we have held initial discussions with Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and have submitted the initial framework for MOF’s assessment.”

The minister noted that KBS aims to expand public sports participation at the grassroots level to build a stronger pipeline of reserve athletes, alongside strengthening welfare support for both active and retired national athletes.

Dr Mohammed Taufiq added that the ministry also intends to roll out comprehensive nationwide engagement tours in 2027, combining mass-participation events and localized community programs to reach rural and unaffiliated youths who have not previously participated in ministry initiatives.
