IPOH, Sept 2 — Police have arrested a fifth suspect in connection with a violent gang robbery that resulted in the death of a 69-year-old man in Teluk Intan last April.
Hilir Perak Police Chief ACP Chua Kok Lian stated last night that the 26-year-old suspect was detained on Aug 26 in Klang, Selangor, during an Ops Kesan/Wanted operation. The arrest follows sustained police efforts to track down all individuals linked to the home invasion and murder.
Four accomplices were previously apprehended and charged at the Teluk Intan Magistrate’s Court on May 7 under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, read together with Section 34 of the same Code.
“Following further investigations, the case was referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor, and instructions have been received for the suspect to be also charged under the same law,” Chua said, adding that the suspect, currently under remand, will be brought to court today to face the charge.
The incident took place on April 17, when a group of masked men broke into a residence in Pekan Baru, Teluk Intan. The victim sustained severe slash wounds to his right hand and left palm from a machete and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Chua urged members of the public with information regarding criminal activities to contact the police to support ongoing efforts to preserve public safety and security across the Hilir Perak district.
