Police Arrest 12 Over RM35,000 Taiwanese YouTuber Robbery in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 — Police have arrested 12 individuals who allegedly impersonated public servants before assaulting and robbing a Taiwanese YouTuber at a condominium in Cheras earlier this month.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed today that all suspects, aged between 26 and 48, were rounded up during a targeted multi-state operation launched across the federal capital, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan beginning August 2.

The police operation was initiated after a Japanese national lodged an official report stating that his employer, a Taiwanese national working as a content creator, had been attacked and robbed at Eko Cheras Residence on August 1.

“The victim sustained injuries and suffered losses estimated at RM35,000,” Fadil said in an official statement today.

According to preliminary police findings, the syndicate had prior knowledge that the victim was keeping a substantial quantity of cash in high-value foreign currency at the residence, which served as the primary catalyst for the planned crime.

Following initial interrogations, seven of the suspects were released on police bail on August 7 after having their statements recorded, while five remaining suspects remain in custody under remand until tomorrow to facilitate deeper investigations into the robbery ring.

“The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant and Section 395 of the Penal Code for committing gang robbery,” Fadil explained.

“Police are actively tracking down one more suspect who is still at large,” he added.
