AKPS Detains Container at Port of Tanjung Pelepas Suspected of Exporting Goods to Israel

JOHOR BAHRU, Aug 8 — The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has detained and inspected a shipping container at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas suspected of carrying goods intended for export to Israel, in violation of federal trade prohibitions.

In an official statement released today, AKPS confirmed that preliminary inspections indicate the shipment appears to breach Item No. 15 of the Second Schedule of the Customs (Prohibition of Exports) Order 2023, which strictly bans any direct or indirect export of goods to Israel in line with Malaysian government directives and foreign policy.

The border enforcement agency has initiated comprehensive multi-agency probes to ascertain the precise contents and strategic implications of the detained cargo.

“AKPS will conduct further investigations together with the relevant authorities and agencies to verify the nature, specifications, intended use and classification of the goods concerned,” the agency stated.

“This includes determining whether the goods are strategic goods subject to control under the Strategic Trade Act 2010 [Act 708] and related subsidiary legislation,” the statement added.

AKPS emphasized that Malaysia maintains an absolute zero-tolerance policy regarding any activities or trade maneuvers that undermine national regulations or attempt to circumvent restrictions concerning Israel.

Reaffirming the official stance of the administration, the agency highlighted that the MADANI Government’s policy on trade restrictions with Israel remains firm, unambiguous, and consistently enforced across all entry and exit points in the country.

AKPS warned that any individual or corporate entity attempting to export items directly or indirectly to Israel in defiance of existing legislation and ministerial orders will face severe legal consequences and firm enforcement action.
