Negeri Sembilan State Election: Barisan Nasional Unveils 25 Candidates for Upcoming Polls

Negeri Sembilan state election

SEREMBAN, July 15 — Barisan Nasional (BN) has officially unveiled its candidate roster for the upcoming 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, naming 25 contestants to lead the coalition’s campaign. The line-up features a strategic blend of seasoned incumbents and fresh faces chosen to navigate the changing local political landscape.

Negeri Sembilan BN Chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan confirmed he will stand to defend the Rantau state seat, a constituency he has continuously represented since 2004. The announcement was made during the official launch of the BN election machinery at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi tonight.

“Thank you to the UMNO president, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, for placing his trust in me to defend the Rantau seat,” Mohamad stated, addressing the gathered party base.

The deputy coalition chief also announced that Negeri Sembilan UMNO Liaison Committee Chairman and Jelebu Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias will defend the Pertang state seat, which he has held since 2013. Other notable incumbents retained for the campaign include Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli in Linggi and Datuk Mustapha Nagoor, who is seeking another term in Palong.

However, the complete roster remains partially incomplete. According to the candidate list distributed to the media, BN has yet to finalise its representatives for 11 out of the state’s 36 legislative seats, leaving constituencies like Klawang, Serting, Lobak, Sikamat, Ampangan, Bukit Kepayang, Mambau, Paroi, Lukut, Bagan Pinang, and Gemas vacant for the moment.

Mohamad explained that the decision to limit the initial lineup to 25 seats is part of a broader, collaborative strategy aimed at reaching an electoral understanding with friendly political coalitions for the Negeri Sembilan state election. He noted that the party will adapt its final deployments based on how rival and allied factions structure their own candidate lists over the coming days.

“BN will contest only 25 seats because we intend to reach an understanding for the Negeri Sembilan state election. We will wait for the announcement from the other side tomorrow,” Mohamad added.

A key battleground highlighted during the launch is the Linggi state seat, where BN candidate Mohd Faizal is slated to square off against Pakatan Harapan heavy hitter and incumbent Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun. The upcoming clash is expected to draw immense national attention.

“We need to work hard because Mohd Faizal will be up against the Menteri Besar. It will be a tough contest, and we must manage our campaign well to secure a favourable result for BN,” Mohamad stated, urging party workers to prepare for a grueling campaign on the ground.

While the coalition has refrained from declaring a specific numeric seat target for this cycle, leadership expressed firm confidence that resurgent public support will carry them to a decisive victory. The upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election dates have already been locked in by authorities, with nomination day fast approaching this Saturday, early voting set for July 28, and polling day confirmed for August 1.

The finalized list of BN candidates contesting the seats includes Siow Kong Choon (MCA) for Chennah, Mohd Razi Mohd Ali (UMNO) for Sungai Lui, Datuk Mohd Zaidy Abdul Kadir (UMNO) for Jeram Padang, Chong Fui Ming (MCA) for Bahau, Datuk Mohd Asna Amin (UMNO) for Lenggeng, Lai Chien Kong (MCA) for Nilai, Leaw Kok Chan (MCA) for Temiang, and Datuk Ismail Lasim (UMNO) for Juasseh.
