KUCHING, July 7 — Sarawak’s state-owned carrier AirBorneo Airways has officially opened ticket sales for its highly anticipated Kuala Lumpur route, charting a pivotal milestone in the state’s strategic initiative to bolster air connectivity with Peninsular Malaysia.
According to an official corporate statement, the newly introduced service will provide a robust twice-daily frequency between Kuching International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1. To celebrate the inaugural rollout, the airline has unveiled its exclusive “Sarawakku Sayang” promotional campaign, offering all-in one-way Economy Class tickets starting from RM375 and Business Class tickets from RM736, both heavily bundled to include all requisite airport taxes and fuel surcharges.
Passengers can begin securing bookings immediately, with the official travel window slated to commence on July 20. In an effort to curb unauthorized third-party markups and ensure digital security, tickets are being retailed exclusively through AirBorneo’s official website and its dedicated mobile application. The airline emphasized that utilizing its proprietary booking channels guarantees customers verified fares, transparent pricing, secure transactions, immediate direct customer support, and real-time booking updates.
AirBorneo Chief Executive Officer Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin hailed the commercial launch as a transformative phase for the regional aviation industry, stating that the opening of ticket sales for the Kuala Lumpur route represented an important step in the airline’s growth journey as it worked to strengthen Sarawak’s links with the rest of Malaysia and beyond.
“Kuala Lumpur is a strategic gateway that expands access to wider domestic and international destinations, creating greater opportunities for tourism, trade, investment and business. As Sarawak’s airline, we are committed to connecting people, businesses and opportunities through safe, reliable and affordable air travel,” Megat Ardian remarked.
He further elaborated that the introduction of the competitive “Sarawakku Sayang” pricing architecture directly mirrors the carrier’s broader socio-economic mandate, reflecting the airline’s commitment to making air travel more accessible while supporting Sarawak’s goals in connectivity, tourism and sustainable economic growth.
Aviation enthusiasts and travelers looking to join the maiden flight can target the inaugural commercial service on July 20, which will operate directly on the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching sector with an initial inventory of 100 seats made available for public booking. Following the historic flight, the full, regular twice-daily schedules connecting Kuala Lumpur and Kuching will officially enter service on July 21, establishing a permanent and reliable bridge for passengers traveling across the South China Sea.
