
PUCHONG, Sept 6 – An African man, suspected to be a member of a gang wanted by the police, was shot dead in a house in Puchong Jaya, Selangor, last night.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the incident happened at 10.50pm when the police raided a unit at the 9th floor in Menara KLH to arrest the suspect, but the latter opened fire. “During the search, the suspect was alone and refused to cooperate, shooting the police twice, forcing the police to return fire,” he said during an interview there.
He added that while searching the house, the police found two knives, a fake license and a bag with fake money, the exact amount of which is yet to be ascertained. The suspect also had a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) card which was believed to be fake.
“The suspect’s age, country of origin and other related documents are still being investigated,” he said. According to Mohd Shuhaily, the suspect is part of an African extortion group, one of whom was shot dead by a police officer in a shootout on August 20. Jalan PJS 9/1. Three other members of the group were arrested on August 25. Police are now working hard to find the remaining members of the group.
On August 20, an African man was shot dead by the police in a shootout at Jalan PJS 9/1, Subang Jaya, Selangor. The person is believed to be a member of a group of robbers who have been robbing people since 2018.
On August 25, three other members of this group were arrested while trying to rob a Japanese citizen from a shop in the capital.
