50 Percent Toll Discount Announced For Deepavali Travel On November 6 And 7

50 percent toll discount Deepavali 2026 Alexander Nanta Linggi

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 – The Malaysian government has announced a 50 per cent toll discount for a two-day period starting Friday, November 6, 2026, in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali festival this Sunday.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi stated on Thursday that the discount will take effect at 12:00 AM (midnight) on Friday, November 6, and conclude at 11:59 PM on Saturday, November 7.

The two-day toll relief is estimated to involve a financial compensation of RM20.11 million to highway concessionaires, which will be fully absorbed by the federal government subject to final traffic data verification.

The discount applies to Class 1 private vehicles across all nationwide toll plazas and Class 2 vehicles crossing the Penang Bridge. However, border entry toll plazas are explicitly excluded from the incentive—specifically the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) toll plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang (TTK) toll plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).

“This decision reflects the ongoing concern and commitment of the MADANI Government in preserving the welfare and well-being of the people regardless of race, religion and belief, while also strengthening the spirit of unity and harmony among Malaysia’s multi-ethnic society,” Nanta said. “This initiative is hoped to help alleviate the travel costs for the people, especially the Hindu community who return to their hometowns or visit family members to celebrate Deepavali.”

The Works Ministry (KKR) through the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) will coordinate with all highway concessionaires to oversee smooth implementation across highway networks.

Nanta urged motorists to plan their festive journeys using LLM traffic updates, ensure sufficient eWallet and Touch ’n Go card balances, maintain safe driving speeds, and observe proper rest intervals during long drives.
