JOHOR BAHRU, July 30 — Police have arrested a 19-year-old female college student and her teenage boyfriend following the murder of a newborn baby girl who was discovered with multiple stab wounds at a rented residence in Taman Setia Mutiara, Kluang, yesterday.
Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad revealed that police were alerted to the incident at 1 pm yesterday after the suspect was admitted to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital due to post-childbirth complications.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased infant was found in a toilet bowl at the rented property by a college lecturer.
However, medical personnel attending to the teenage suspect at the hospital discovered that she was carrying twins, with the second child still inside her womb.
“During an examination at the hospital, doctors discovered a second baby (a twin) still in the student’s womb. The baby was subsequently delivered safely,” Ab Rahaman told a press conference at the Johor Police Headquarters today.
Police are making a formal remand application against both 19-year-old suspects at the Magistrates’ Court today to facilitate further investigations into the tragedy.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment, alongside Section 315 of the Penal Code for acts done with intent to prevent a child from being born alive or causing it to die after birth.
