Commenting on his 45-minute audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Langkawi MP said he proposed the establishment of a special body such as the National Operations Council (MAGERAN) to address four main issues facing Malaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They include the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the economy as well as political and social instability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leaders of political parties including from the opposition have been summoned for audiences with His Majesty beginning yesterday. Leaders from Sarawak are scheduled to have a virtual audience with Al-Sultan Abdullah on June 14.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Mahathir said Al-Sultan Abdullah also asked his views on when the 15th General Election (GE15) would be appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe (Yang di-Pertuan Agong) did ask if the election could be held next year or any (other) time… I said it\u2019s dangerous to hold it now. Like (what had happened) in Sabah (state elections)… there will be (a) spike in (COVID-19) cases,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the country needed to achieve herd immunity in the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine before GE15 could be held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we achieve herd immunity, giving vaccine to 80 per cent of the people, then is quite safe to hold elections. If not, what happened to Sabah will happen again,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
