JERUSALEM, May 20 — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed a request on Wednesday by US President Joe Biden for a de-escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip and stressed Israel’s military offensive would continue, reported Anadolu Agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Netanyahu thanked the US for its support, and Washington\u2019s commitment for Israel’s right to defend itself but insisted the operation will continue “until its aim is met,\u201d according to a statement from his office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Netanyahu said the offensive will move forward “to return the calm and security” to Israelis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early Wednesday, the White House said Biden told Netanyahu he expects a de-escalation in Israel’s\u00a0military offensive on the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The president conveyed to the prime minister that he expected a significant de-escalation today on the path to a cease-fire,” spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters aboard Air Force One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 227 Palestinians have been killed, including 64 children and 36 women, and 1,620 others injured in Israeli attacks across the blockaded territory since May 10, according to the Health Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Twelve people in Israel have been killed in Palestinian rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
