JOHOR BAHRU, May 18 —  Seven more men were arrested by the police yesterday in connection with a riot in Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, last week, bringing the total number of people arrested in the case to 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Johor police chief Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the seven men, aged between 19 and 23, were noe in remand for three days until Thursday (May 20).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the 20 others who were arrested earlier, he said, their remand order had been extended for another three days from yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The riot took place at about 2 am last Thursday at a junction of Parit Raja town, where a\u00a0group of about 40 people erected a roadblock with motorcycles and cars for 15 minutes to draw the attention of motorists apart from putting up a banner printed with the words ‘Kerajaan Gagal’ while setting off flares and firecrackers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A video on the incident went viral on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Ayob Khan said 20 compounds, amounting to RM42,000, were issued by the police since May 13 until yesterday for violation of the prescribed standard operating procedures in conjunction with the Aidilfitri celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also opened an investigation paper against Bukit Batu Assemblyman Jimmy Puah Wee Tse for allegedly violating the SOP regarding Aidilfitri visits, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigation was conducted following a Facebook posting on Puah at a house in Taman Desa Jaya, Ulu Tiram, on the first day of Aidilfitri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
