{"id":9199,"date":"2021-04-20T15:13:22","date_gmt":"2021-04-20T07:13:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=9199"},"modified":"2021-04-20T15:13:23","modified_gmt":"2021-04-20T07:13:23","slug":"maybank-islamic-provides-aid-in-11-countries-in-conjunction-with-ramadan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=9199","title":{"rendered":"Maybank Islamic provides aid in 11 countries in conjunction with Ramadan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 &#8212;&nbsp;Maybank Islamic Bhd is contributing&nbsp;food packs to over 5,000 families in 11 countries,&nbsp;in conjunction with the fasting month of Ramadan, to alleviate their burdens wreaked by COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The aid would benefit\u00a0the underprivileged groups in countries where the bank operates, namely\u00a0Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Brunei, Dubai, and the marginalized community in Myanmar of Rohingya ethnic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybank Islamic\u00a0chief executive officer\u00a0Datuk\u00a0Mohamed Rafique Merican said\u00a0the program was aligned to the Maybank Group\u2019s mission of humanizing financial services across Asia, besides being part of Maybank Islamic\u2019s initiative to uphold the intended outcomes of shariah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-20-at-15.10.25.png\" alt=\"maybank islamic\" class=\"wp-image-9200\" width=\"500\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-20-at-15.10.25.png 591w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-20-at-15.10.25-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-20-at-15.10.25-185x100.png 185w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-20-at-15.10.25-350x189.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He said&nbsp;the aid would&nbsp;be distributed to individuals or families, particularly the B40 income group which includes&nbsp;single mothers, people with disabilities, fishermen, farmers, and those who lost their jobs since the start of the Movement Control Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c\u201cWe hope that this contribution will ease the burdens and reduce the cost of daily expenses of those in need, especially with the fasting month,\u201d he said in a statement today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Regional Ramadan Relief annual programme&nbsp;is a collaboration with five other non-governmental organisations, namely the Islamic Relief Malaysia, Mercy Malaysia, Islamic Aid Malaysia, Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia&nbsp;and Yayasan Ikhlas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its inception in 2013, Maybank Islamic has allocated fund over RM14 million for its flagship corporate responsibility (CR)&nbsp;programme that&nbsp;has benefited about 120,000 underprivileged families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohamed Rafique said Maybank Islamic has allocated over\u00a0RM13 million fund for CR\u00a0program in 2021, which would be distributed on basis of four pillars, namely\u00a0education, humanitarian aid,\u00a0Islamic social finance, and Ihsan (spiritual excellence).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
