{"id":8750,"date":"2021-03-20T12:28:18","date_gmt":"2021-03-20T04:28:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8750"},"modified":"2021-03-20T12:28:36","modified_gmt":"2021-03-20T04:28:36","slug":"pm-strongly-urges-military-in-myanmar-to-choose-a-peaceful-solution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8750","title":{"rendered":"PM strongly urges the military in Myanmar to choose a peaceful solution"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KUALA LUMPUR, March\u00a020 \u00a0&#8212;\u00a0Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin\u00a0has strongly urged the\u00a0military leadership in Myanmar to change its course and choose a path towards a peaceful solution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muhyiddin said Malaysia&nbsp;had&nbsp;expressed it grave concern over the tragic situation in Myanmar since the Feb 1 military coup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the prime minister said the larger ASEAN community could not afford to see its brotherly nation of Myanmar become so destabilized at the hands of a select\u00a0few seeking to promote their own vested interests. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u201cOnce again, Malaysia repeats our consistent call for all concerned parties to work together towards a peaceful settlement of this crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-20-at-12.25.56.png\" alt=\"peaceful\" class=\"wp-image-8751\" width=\"518\" height=\"318\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-20-at-12.25.56.png 589w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-20-at-12.25.56-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-20-at-12.25.56-163x100.png 163w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-20-at-12.25.56-350x215.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will continue to support an inclusive dialogue for a political transition, and urge all parties to return to the negotiating table, remedy the crisis and avoid any further escalation of tensions,\u201d he said in a statement today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muhyiddin also called for the prompt and unconditional release of political leaders, including State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint, who have been arbitrarily detained since Feb 1, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Muhyiddin also strongly supported&nbsp;the statement by Indonesian President Joko Widodo&nbsp;today&nbsp;and his call for the convening of an emergency ASEAN Summit to address the situation in Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On another note, Muhyiddin pointed out that&nbsp;it&nbsp;was clear that the current political struggle only victimised&nbsp;the common people of Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis has no place in the values of our beliefs, conscience and culture.
