PUTRAJAYA, March 16 — The Communications and Multimedia Ministry (KKMM) today launched the \u201cRespecting National Emblems\u201d book as an academic reference and information source on the history, philosophy and value of each national emblem, namely the Coat of Arms, the Jalur Gemilang and the Royal Regalia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the book was an initiative by KKMM through the Information Department (JaPen) following a Cabinet decision made on July 1 last year, this after several incidents involving the wrongful use of national emblems by irresponsible quarters that went viral on social media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis 60-page book explains in a simplified manner about the law and ethics of using the national symbols. This, in turn, will help gain more knowledge and understanding and foster the spirit of love for the country among Malaysians,” he said in a press conference after launching the book here today<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On incidences where the Jalur Gemilang\u00a0had been\u00a0hoisted upside-down in the run-up to Merdeka Day, although unintentionally,\u00a0Saifuddin\u00a0hoped that the book would give the public an understanding of\u00a0protocols involving the national flag and official portraits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is important even if it seems like a small thing, it shows diligence because the national emblems symbolise the country’s identity. It should be seen as an expression of love for Malaysia and uphold the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the protector of the nation. We want the emblems to be used correctly especially among the young , ” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Asked on what sort of action can be taken against those who used the Jalur Gemilang as clothing, Saifuddin said although they had good intentions to show love and pride for the country, it was not allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe do not intend to take action but when the book and rules are out come July, we will start planning the launch of the National Day celebration, during which time all these will be explained to prevent it from happening again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saifuddin said a total of 100,000 books would be printed for distribution to ministries and agencies, including at the state level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the public is encouraged to obtain the book in digital form which can be downloaded from KKMM\u2019s website, www.kkmm.gov.my, or JaPen at www.penerangan.gov.my.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
