{"id":8613,"date":"2021-03-12T22:06:55","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T14:06:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8613"},"modified":"2021-03-12T22:06:56","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T14:06:56","slug":"rm10000-compound-need-not-be-settled-immediately-appeal-possible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=8613","title":{"rendered":"RM10,000 compound need not be settled immediately, appeal possible"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PUTRAJAYA, March 12&nbsp;&#8212; Individuals compounded RM10,000 for breaching the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the Emergency&nbsp;(Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment)&nbsp;Ordinance 2021&nbsp;do not have to pay the fine immediately, and may appeal for the amount to be reduced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister in the Prime Minister&#8217;s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the amount written on the compound notice&nbsp;was not final, as the individual could appeal to the&nbsp;authorised officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The ordinance states (a fine) not exceeding RM10,000. It could\u00a0be RM100 or RM1,000&#8230;depending on the nature of the offense,&#8221; he said in a joint press conference with Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah\u00a0here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-12-at-22.04.17.png\" alt=\"appeal\" class=\"wp-image-8614\" width=\"499\" height=\"273\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-12-at-22.04.17.png 580w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-12-at-22.04.17-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-12-at-22.04.17-183x100.png 183w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Screen-Shot-2021-03-12-at-22.04.17-350x191.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 499px) 100vw, 499px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The ordinance which was gazetted by the Federal Government in February, came into effect on March 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Section 25 of the ordinance also provides jurisdiction to the Health director-general or any authorised officer to issue compounds for any offence under the act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, an&nbsp;incident involving an&nbsp;individual who was compounded RM10,000 for failing to record his details&nbsp;at a restaurant through the&nbsp;MySejahtera application or the registration book provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Takiyuddin said&nbsp;individuals were given up to a&nbsp;month to settle the compound, and during this period they could go to the District Health Office and meet with the authorised officer to make an appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said if individuals wished their compound amounts&nbsp;to be reduced further, they could go to court for the next legal process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you want to go to court, you can, it&#8217;s easy to mitigate, but not many people want to go to court.
